Sweet n’ Salty Capacitor

SweetnSalty Capacitor Mockup1 Sweet n Salty Capacitor

Design & Fabrication by Emily Daniels 2011

This project was an attempt to create a low voltage non-toxic battery that would be easy to make and carry around. The housing was made from hard candy because sugar heated to high temperatures takes on some of the properties of glass and was an easy insulator to create cheaply. After cooling the sugar shells, a prepared electrolyte of Rochelle and Epsom salts was added to the shells along with coils of two dissimilar metals and wired in sequence to light an LED. Instructions on how to make it are here.
